Sculpture

Annie Henry creates sculptures that come from her imagination.  Although loosely based on the human figure they display a rare combination of lyricism and fine craftsmanship.  Her background as a musician becomes clear when you see the passion, fluidity and gentle beauty contained in each of her handcrafted figures.

Annie was born in Wales in 1956 where she grew up.   Her family were musical and her paternal grandfather was an artist/photographer. Since 1966 she lived in London but came to Cornwall in 2002 to set up her studio in Perranuthnoe when she took part in the St Ives International Ceramica Festival.

Annie is a member of Cornwall Crafts Association and regularly exhibits at Trelissick, Nr Truro and Trelawarren, Lizard, as well as their annual Christmas show at Penlee House Museum, Penzance.    In recent years she has exhibited at the Camelford Gallery, the Wavelength Gallery, Falmouth, Veryan Gallery on the Roseland Peninsula and the Affordable Arts Fair at Battersea.

Annie uses clay to express how she feels about music and dance.   Some of her figures remain as fired ceramic which she glazes, others are translated into bronze.   Each has a different qualilty, the ceramics allow Annie to make more abstract pieces taking risks with forms that extend further than just the representational figure.   Her latest work looks at angels, saints and swirling dancers.   In her bronzes dancing, running and swimming figures emerge from waves of movement which could also be material and have an intriguing ambiguity.

Annie is always happy to discuss any possible commissions.

If you would like to receive an invitation to the next exhibition, please send Annie an e-mail to info@anniehenry.com.
