Annie Henry creates sculptures that come from her imagination.  Although loosely based on the human figure they display a rare combination of lyricism and fine craftsmanship.  Her background as a musician becomes clear when you see the passion, fluidity and gentle beauty contained in each of her handcrafted figures.

Annie was born in Wales in 1956 where she grew up.  Her family were musical and her paternal grandfather was an artist/photographer.  Since 1966 she has lived in London but came to Cornwall in 2002 to set up her studio in Perranuthnoe when she took part in the St. Ives International Ceramica Festival.  She finds coming to Cornwall gives her the time and peace to make her art.

Since then she has exhibited at the Camelford Gallery, the Wavelength Gallery in Falmouth and now the Veryan Galleries.  Her exhibitions in recent years have included Annie Bellion Gallery, Verbanella, Knightsbridge, The Grange, Wimbledon and the Affordable Arts Fair with Art for Interiors at Battersea.

Annie uses clay to express how she feels about music and dance.  Some of her figures remain as fired ceramic which she glazes, others are translated into bronze.  Each has a different quality, the ceramics allow Annie to make more abstract pieces taking risks with forms that extend further than just the presentational figure.  Her latest works looks at angels and swirling dancers.  In her bronzes dancing, running and swimming figures emerge from waves of movement which could also be material and have an intriguing ambiguity.

If you would like to receive an invitation to the next exhibition, please send Annie an e-mail to info@anniehenry.com.
