Sculpture
A look at Annie
Henry's sculptures and creative clay work.
"Annie Henry
creates sculptures that come from her imagination. Although
loosely based on the human figure they display a rare combination of
lyricism and fine craftsmanship. Her background as a musician
becomes clear when you see the passion, fluidity and gentle beauty
contained in each of her handcrafted figures.

Annie came to
Cornwall in 2002 to set up her studio in Perranuthnoe when she took
part in the St Ives International Ceramica Festival and is a member of
Cornwall Crafts Association and regularly exhibits at Trelissick, Nr
Truro and Trelawarren, Lizard, as well as their
annual Christmas show at Penlee House Museum, Penzance.

Annie uses clay to
express how she feels about music and dance. Some
of her figures remain as fired ceramic which she glazes, others are
translated into bronze. Each has a different
qualilty, the ceramics allow Annie to make more abstract pieces taking
risks with forms that extend further than just the representational
figure. In her bronzes dancing, running and swimming
figures emerge from waves of movement which could also be material and
have an intriguing ambiguity.
She also
facilitates creative workshops,
helping others express themselves in clay.
