All About Annie
Henry - Sculptor, Musician and creative clay workshop facilitator.
I was born in Wales
in 1956 where I grew up. I started playing guitar
at school with other friends and we shared chords and songs, some of
which are still in my repertoire today!
In the late 70s I
joined forces with Dave Mills, (singer/drummer/percussion) and formed
the duo Special Offer
playing wine bars, clubs and corporate functions.
Over the years I
have played a real cross section of music with various bands, including
touring in Europe with Jamie
Marshall Band in the late 80s,
but have returned in the last few years to song writing and playing
guitar.
After discussions
with Kif Wood,
a guitar maker in Perranuthnoe, he created a 12 string mando-guitar for
me which I have been playing at gigs and in the recording studio.
I have always
enjoyed making art – my grandfather used to sit for hours
with me drawing. He had a darkroom where he
developed his own photographs and I was fascinated by the mystery of it
all.
I started working
with clay
soon after my youngest son, Andrew, was born in
1991. I attended life-classes and developed my own
figurative style expressing my emotions and working out the challenges
of life through the clay.
Setting up my
studio in Cornwall in 2002 introduced me to many wonderful artists, and
craftworkers, and I collaborated with Geraldine
Jones, basket maker and
willow-worker on developing my angels.

In recent years I
have received commissions from churches and created a number of
sculptures of Saints, but the angels keep appearing in the
work! They seem to follow me around!
It’s
wonderful to be able to share my joy of working with clay and I run
creative clay workshops, sometimes one to one, sometimes for groups,
children and adults. You can find
out more about
my workshops here.
